The NBA is the premier professional basketball league in the world, founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The NBA has a rich history of awards, recognizing the best players, teams, and coaches in each season. Some of the most prestigious awards are the MVP, the Defensive Player of the Year, the Rookie of the Year, and the Finals MVP.
In 2022, the NBA unveiled six new trophies for the Kia Performance award winners, each named after a legendary player who exemplified the awards. For example, the Kia Most Improved Player award is now named after George Mikan, the first dominant big man in NBA history. The new trophies are designed to reflect the legacy and achievements of the players they honor, as well as the modern style and elegance of the NBA brand.
