As the dust settles on the latest round of Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ghana’s chances of reaching Morocco 2025 are hanging by a thread. With four games played, the Black Stars find themselves in a precarious position: third in their group with only two points, following two draws and two defeats. Currently, Sudan holds the second qualifying spot with seven points, five ahead of Ghana.
To qualify, Ghana will need nothing short of a miracle. The four-time AFCON champions must win their remaining matches and hope for a slip-up from Sudan, which, based on recent form, seems unlikely. The Black Stars face Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by a decisive home game against Niger on November 18 in Accra. These fixtures now carry enormous pressure, as they represent Ghana’s last chance to secure a ticket to the prestigious continental tournament.
This situation has led to frustration among fans, who have been vocal in their disappointment with the Ghana Football Association and the team’s leadership. Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, has not missed a tournament in 20 years, and many believe the team should be performing better. Fans on social media have expressed concerns that the current administration lacks a clear plan to help the team regain its strength and competitive edge.
Missing out on AFCON 2025 would be a huge blow for the Black Stars and their supporters. The team must give its all in the upcoming games if they hope to keep Ghana’s proud football tradition alive.
