Ghana has four Afcon trophies and is recognized as one of the power houses of African football. However, the last time the black Stars won the Afcon was in 1982, almost forty years ago.
In recent times, Ghana came close to winning the tournament in the years 2010 and 2015 where they were beaten in the finals by seven time champions Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.
Their last appearance in Cameroon,2019 on the other hand leaves much to be desired. They recorded the nation’s worst ever performance in the continent’s masterpiece. Ghana failed to qualify from the group with just one point.
Ghana was beaten in their first match 1 - 0 by Morocco, managed a 1 - 1 against Gabon and the famous 3 - 1 loss against Comoros which sent them
packing.
The black stars however have a chance to redeem themselves in the 2023 Afcon scheduled for Ivory Coast early next year. Ghana finds herself in Group B with record winners Egypt(7), Cape Verde and Mozambique.
With a new coach and a squad of elites from the diaspora, can the stars end their over 60 years wait for shiver-ware or will this be another disaster of a tournament.
